Dr. Sue’s First Aid Kit List for the active dog owner

We have found that a cooler type chest works well for storing your supplies — labeled of course! It’s always a good idea to check with your veterinarian about recommendations for a kit and your dog’s special needs. Some good books are First Aid for the Active Dog by Sid Gustafson, DVM and Field Guide to Dog First Aid by Randy Acker, DVM.
Must haves:

  • Hemostats
  • Vetwrap/Elastikon
  • Cast padding/gauze/Telfa pads/gauze
  • Sponges
  • Hydrogen Peroxide

  • Scissors and/or knife
Nice to have:

  • Copies of rabies certificates (maybe a must have!)
  • Very bright flashlight with spare batteries

  • Triple antibiotic cream

  • Wrist wraps
  • Saran wrap
  • Soft leash
  • Tweezers
  • Skin stapler
  • Needles/syringes
  • Nail clippers
  • White tape
  • Band-aids/cold medicines Moleskin
  • Cotton balls/Q-tips
  • Disposable vinyl gloves

Skunk Odor Remover:
  • 1 qt. Hydrogen peroxide
  • ¼ c. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. dish detergent (Dawn perferred)
